Looking to take my daughter to La Joya this weekend. Worried about the icing, took her to Bernardo Ponds a couple weeks ago and they were totally frozen, not a good first experience for her. How bad is the ice at North La Joya and is there still open water for the birds?

Just be careful if you do go to the river for the first time while it's dark. It gets deep quick and the current is strong in spots.

Hunted North La Joya today ice was pretty thick took a while to bust way to blinds and where we wanted to hunt.... Down fall is that yet again for the third week in a row you do all this work and have somebody shooting 25minutes before the half hour lee way you are given makes for a long day when birds are moving off refuge 25min. prior to being able to legally shoot

bandgitter91 we ended up suffering through the same problems you mention. I'm always amazed at the early shooters, there is no way they can clearly see yet alone identify their target. What a mess. I hoped to get into one of the shed type blinds but we were a couple of minutes late getting to the one I was planning on. I want to thank the group that was there for their understanding and sportsmanship as we stumbled around in the dark trying to break ice to a different location.
