Sarcocystis - not uncommon. Have seen it in mallards, blacks, pintails, teal. What kind of duk was it? Blak duck or hen mallard- cant tell.

They say its SAfe to eat but I wouldn't.

If you all newbies would pick your ducks, you'd never know it. No one ever talked about rice breast when we were hunting and eating ducks on Currituck and Back Bay because no one ever skinned there ducks just blue peters. Stop skinning them and spend a little time to pick them and you aint gonna even know it.

Newbie? Don't think so cap. To each their own. If you prefer to eat duck that looks like it has maggots in it then that's great.

If you don't pick your ducks, then you are part of this TV breed of face painting sticker barrel fist bumping "brother" calling 3 1/2 shooting duck hunter. No one ever talked about it or cared back here because it didn't matter and you ate what you shot.

I guess its just different times now and we dont want to serve a duck-a-la-bisque at the next foodie that has rice breast. I mean, What will the VanHoidieToidy's think?

Hey cap'm, at least (it appearsas if) he shot with a punt gun through the guts. He might not be as old school cool as you but he's tryin.

In all seriousness though, it looks like there's a lot of blown out meat from a close range shot there whether you'll eat the maggot lookin stuff or not. My rule of thumb is to not eat something questionable since my clan has moved into the modern era of grocery stores. Ill eat everything I kill, but don't have to. Guess I'm a 1%-er.

If someone would tell me how to easily pluck a duck without having to burn off the pin feathers with a torch I'm all for it. Rice breast is no big deal. I feed it to my friends all of the time. :lol3:
