SD Migration Hotline:

A flock of approximately 1000 snows about two miles west of Tyndall, SD.

5K snow geese a bit farther north, approximately 10-miles east of the Plankinton exit along I-90.

Sand Lake Refuge (north of Aberdeen South Dakota)
February 18, 2005:
Some small flocks of snow geese entering into southern South Dakota near Yankton, no migration activity to report on Sand Lake yet. Some Canada geese and mallard ducks are up at the Refuge.

You will probably be in good shape at that time.

There's a few in S. SD and some birds in Nebraska are getting restless and flying north. Looking cold next week, if anything holds it should be around the Missouri R.

I heard the extended forcast tonight, average to below average temps for the next week in the upper plains. Thus it'll be at least a week yet before the main bunch really start heading NNW out of AR and MO.

Was out scouting around Veblen, SD for Prairie Honkers and there were some flocks around Putney. Went all the way south of Ipswich, SD and saw a few flocks that surprised me. Just the numbers. It is early though and the weatherman is saying snow Sunday night to Friday. That might change things alot. Either way, that good southwest wind we had sure brought them up.
good hunting

Mr. Weatherman said we are suppose to get 5 or 6+ inches of snow. That will hold them off for a while.

Just got back from desmet SD, tons of geese in the area. Tuff decoying weather and all the birds we seen were adults. Just waiting on the juvies so we can get some in the decoys that dont hang up at 60-70 yards. Good luck to everyone chasing the white geese.

Keep the wind in your face and the sun at your back. :salude:

Lots of birds in ND now, and they're pushing all the way up to HW 2.

Lots of birds reported on the ground this morning between HW 200 and HW 2.

There still are some snows in ND as of this past weekend. The snow finally has melted as of last week. smaller potholes were open, and by Sunday many medium sized sloughs were open too.

I shot 39 in 3 mornings of hunting. Shooting was a real bitch at times because of so many Specks and the sun in the eyes in the AM as they came in from the East. So had to shoot mostly "white" birds as a result to aviod taking a speck. I sure woiuld have liked to bag more Blues. 5 Blues, 12 Ross, and the rest were Snows.

I do not think I ever had this ever happen before on Sunday--I had Snows, Blues, Ross, Specks and Greater Canadas All in the SAME flock in over the decoys  I do not mean individual flocks consisting of the above, I mean litterally in the same flock/group.

I've never seen so many Specks in eastern ND before.

On a surprising note, in the negative way, I saw few ducks. Sheet water everywhere, potholes with average water height and few ducks. That does not bode well this coming falls flight. The biggest flock was 11 birds. very surpising I did not see rafts of diver, or Big flocks of Mallards/Pintials, Gaddies, etc..

There still are snows in ND this past weekend, but you need to scout hard to find them. I put of 350 miles on gravel/fields roads on friday alone, but it paid off as I did well on Sat Am.

here is a pic from last Sat. (4/9)

If you have the time and $ and have the decoys and such--head for southern MB as very little pressure there, but be forwarned--Ross geese are not allowed in CA in the spring season.

Had a buddy of mine kill a blue this last weekend up by the border of SD and ND. But i think it was just a local or it was really lost. Things should start to move south now that we had our first cold snap.
