Ice?

Postby Rauh » Tue Dec 31, 2013 8:58 pm

So what's the ice update on all the northern Nevada hunting grounds? (Greenhead, mason, etc)?

Been trying the truckee but it seems less and less ducks fly every time I go...
(Every other day for a week or so)

Checked GH Tuesday and you could still walk on it without any cracking.

I can't even work up the ooomph to go out. Where we go on the river isn't that great even on a good day and if Greenhead is still hard, Stillwater will be too. Just can't see driving out to Fallon only to see ice. Guess it's a "work around the house" weekend again.

Hate to say it but when it freezes this hard for this long--the birds are gone---it would take a few weeks of open water to MAYBE get a few birds back. It's game over for NV this year. The refuges have been shooting ok in CA. Sweat it out in the sweat line.... OR go trap some Yotes!!!

Looking at all this ice and no weather late in the season. I would say keep the season open for those two days in October and close it on a Friday. I think it would be a better trade off. My two cents.

Would have to agree. Were done in this part of the state for the rest of the duck season.

Got out to the range on Sunday and dialed in the 22-250 for Yotes. Broke out the E-Collar and all the Predator Gear for Callin. Anyone interested in killan some Yotes, post up!
