Puppy bad habits

Postby RMK 700 » Fri Jan 24, 2014 3:05 pm

I have a 5 month old male yellow lab. He has gotten basically house broken until just recently. The issue that I am having is that he has developed a bad habit of cowering when he is in trouble and piddling on the floor (just started to do it). I am trying to be much lighter on reprimanding him to see if this will subside.

The second issue that I have is that he is at a point where he finds it exhilarating lately to chew things up and pack them around. So now when this happens, say in the house and I raise my voice, he peas in the house. Any ideas on how to handle these issues?

when in doubt throttle out.

The dog shouldn't be cowering when reprimanded. Have you been hitting him? If so stop and start rebuilding trust with the dog.

It does read like you are scaring the piss out of your dog. However there are some dogs that are a mess from birth. Or fragile from birth and need handled differently. Especially rescues or back-yard bred.

As far as chewing - you have about 12 more months of that.

Best to keep things picked up and crate the dog when you're not supervising.

Tread carefully.
