Trip???

Postby hillbilly.. » Fri Feb 14, 2014 3:18 am

Well the wife is making a trip to Alaska this summer. well Im not going with her because she wont let me fish or hunt. Well im not going to go to stare at trees. So im now trying to plan to a trip but im not sure what I want to wait till fall to go kill ducks some were or go to east coast flordia or louisana this summer to bowfish. bowfishing is just as big a passion as duck hunting. After a big trip tropheys aren't a biggy for me just numbers and meat is what im after or maybe even a hog hunt

Combo hunt in Florida...bowfish and smoke a gator with the bow while you are there...or a wild boar....

wooaahhh she won't even let you go fishing in Alaska? That's messed up.

Have you considered a spring snow goose hunt? Not really a vacation but its bird hunting. But bow fishing monster gar down south would be awesome as well tho.

yea but hunting snows is a little to close of a date for me. and most the guides stop at 10am so for $300 bucks to hunt for 4 hours same with doing a sea duck hunt. is keepin me from doing that.

Dang I figured guided hunts would be an all day thing. I wouldn't wanna pay $300 to hunt until 10 am either.

My vote would be pigs and combo it up with some night time nutria hunting out of the back if the truck with the lights. Put a teaser out in the Louisiana page maybe a cheap trip that you could hook up with someone and mix in a little fishing reds in the gulf too.

Look around a bit more.. I use a guide once a year $150 a day we go to 3pm, sometimes if he isn't hosting the next day we will hunt till dark.

Seems you are correct sir. Think I just looked at a guide service that was $235 for a single all day, but $195 a day if you book for 2+ days. Not that bad if you have the money. I'm sure cheaper rates could be found elsewhere, I just looked at the first guide service that popped up when I googled "snow goose hunting guide south dakota"

Yea for sure. A lot of times the budget guys are tons of fun, relaxed guides but they'll bust their butts to make it a good hunt...something you don't always find with the guides who just got a 500$ tip from the corporate group they hosted yesterday. Another reason I go back to this one guy every year is that he makes us work for the hunt..hustling out to the blinds etc... can't buy a hunt that makes you feel like you're really the ones making it come together.

Ya if I was to hire a guide, I'd basically want them for to find a field and let me use their equipment and give me a few pointers here and there. I like doing stuff and learning on my own. Hunting is one of the few activities of life that won't get me into trouble lol
