mid to late nov. in SD

Postby todd3 » Sun Sep 23, 2007 11:21 am

We've hunted North Dakota for the last 4 years, around Halloween into the second week of nov. It has has generally worked out good for us, so this being are first trip to SD for mallards we decided to take are 10 days around the third weekend in nov. Obviously the weather will play the main role, just wondering on an "average" year if anybody else plans there trips this late? We plan on hunting central or maybe a little north, either way we plan on putting on a ton miles just like ND.

yeah we got drawn. There are 4 of us coming out, but three of us work at the same place so we had to get our vacation time in awhile ago. Those days are the only days that would work. I think we would've liked to be out there a week or so earlier, but we'll manage to find something hopefully.

Yeah, I think we should find some. This just being are first year you never know. It seems like the falls have been staying warmer a little bit the last few years.

todd3,
I have been going up to northern SD (Aberdeen) for the last 2 yrs hunting with a buddy and loved it. Last year it was cold / windy and had to break ice but the hunting was excellent also you will not see many other waterfowl hunters. I will be up hunting from Oct 26th thru Nov 3. If you haven't picked up a free SD hunting atlas you might want to get one. We hunt Brown and McPherson county and we also put on some miles.

Did you put in for any swan permits?

We didn't apply for swan permits. Have you ever gone later than you are this year? We'll be in ND starting halloween thru the next week.

Ducks

Postby recker » Fri Oct 12, 2007 1:42 am

The ducks are always around. No need to get out early. We usually hunt at 8 or 9 am and have limits in a few hours.
