In the stone ages, we could just pick a limit off the rocks during a minus tide. Now, you have to work for them and spend as much on gear as duck hunting. Great way to stay in shape for duck season though. I'll just enjoy my fried squid @ the bar and talk about the good ol days.

Wish they would give folks a test on how to identify danger before they enter the water.

Not really. Seems like every year a couple of guys from the Central Valley go over the hill and then drown. While some are just the victims of circumstance others have no business going into the water.

Sacramento Syndrome kills.

Yeah, it is usually the valley guys that drown they drive all that way and won't take no for an answer. Less excuse for that these days with weather and buoy conditions on the internet. One used to need to know somebody on the coast and call them to see what the ocean was doing.
I predict there will be an increase in drownings this year because Fish and Game is starting a no ab picking till 8 AM rule. This will convert some rock pickers who are poor swimmers to marginal divers.

That's just it. It's not stupidity so much as desire. Not everyone has an override switch on that emotion - and it's harder to find when you are younger.

So a real smart young man could go out there and just not realize the level experience that might be needed in a given situation. And worse, not recognize some situations are bad no matter what kind of experience you have.

I really hesitate to call those that have died stupid - but evolution did take it's course with some of them. Not too many ways to color that.

That switch is the reason that I waited until I was 40 to get my pilots license. There are Old Pilots and there are Bold Pilots, there are no Old, Bold Pilots.

That's their problem. There's this thing called natural selection, no need for laws protecting us from ourselves.

Well I'm sure a test will fix all that! have you hunted a refuge or driven on a highway lately. They all took test too.

Zactly, and it's very hard to kill someone else by being a dumb ass while ab diving.

I don't believe ~6 people a year die from getting shot on refuges so apparently classes for hunters work.

You're making the argument for me. :lol3:

Slow it's never an argument with you! It's just you saying "I'm right" until people realize they are wasting their time and move on. How many die in car accidents? How many get shot and don't die or even get injured? I bet even you have been peppered in the field. Get real! crap happens!

True this isn't an argument because I don't think a class is going to help youngsters not be young and full of bravado.
Hang on a sec. My favorite part of the Omen is on... Gregory Peck trims away Damian's hair to reveal not the dreaded 666.. But a "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine" tattoo!

Sorry, I have to yell that every time that movie is on or life just isn't complete.

Okay back to the class thing.

One of two things are going to happen. Either they give a class that shows morons how to use a ruler so they don't leave small abs behind to bleed out (then they sneak in a warning or two about diving). Or enough people will die that the antis will tell folks that wasting wildlife and human life will have to end.

If the latter comes to pass expect monitored diving, less access, permits and all that crap - and then hippies.

If the former happens the worst that will come of it is that the DFG tells everyone what is up for an hour then passes out permits. Then 5 guys from Sac drown instead of 6.

Either way the only thing that is keeping the Feds/State/whoever from doing a class is funding. Enough guys will die eventually and they'll get around to it. Mostly because they'll be put under microscope for letting the young and foolish do things that prove they are young and foolish.

As to me being (almost) always sorta definitely right? I can't help that other people are more often than not wrong. :lol3: :lol3: :lol3:

Slow , You don't have to worry about me , you should see how I dress just getting in the tub ! :lol3:

In fact when I'm hunting I use a wading staff , even tho I have to bend over to use it because it's 22" long ,
deeper water is not my thing after rolling my boat over and having to swim to shore . Looking back and
seeing my staff sticking out of the water made me feel a little bit better ! :help: :help:

People not measuring abs right isn't as big of a problem as the hmongs that go out and pick sacks full of them at a time.

Is this a joke? You can't dive for abalone at Catalina. You can't be in possession of ab and scuba diving equipment at the same time.

No. We are snorkeling for ab. Then going on a few wreck dives. Obviously not both at the same time. We are staying there for 4 days.

I have been diving for 10 years. Got her certified a few years ago and she loves it. Best idea ever. She can't bitch about going on dive trips because she is coming along. Great excuse to go in some nice vacations.

Welp no ab diving. Actually looked at the regs. That won't be happening. We are taking a charter and it said fills limits. I guess they me lobsters. That's was what all the pics were of
