Will county Du Page river

Can you hunt this river if not on a bank. It holds ducks all year. I have heard of jumpshooters getting arrested down there. Plainfield and Shorewood
Good Luck in the field-Mike.

I could be wrong but the Dupage is not a navigable waterway which means the landowner has rights to the land under the water out to the middle of the river. If you have permission from the land owner you are able to hunt his shoreline on the land or from a boat. Good luck getting permission though. If you drop anchor without the landowners permission you are technically trespassing, and you cannot hunt from an unanchored boat.

Mike 657, I have seen guys in boats and mud motors going down heading south. I Sat at the dirt ramp drinking coffee from my truck, watching them shoot birds.
And north towards Naperville , from the bridge by the rock quarry, same thing.
As my dad use to say, " it's only illegal if you get caught".

Got booted off by the Dnr last yr. We farmed both sides of the river but leased the land. Thought river was public water but he informed us its a non navigatable river. Also told us all the boat hunters needed permission from every single land owner as they crossed each line to be on the river. Stupid I think. Some of the best hunts I've ever had down there but almost impossible to get permission anywhere

I'd of told them to haul me in and prove it in court. What authority did they have if nobody had signed a complaint ??? They can't arrest you for trespassing unless a landowner files a charge !! Sometimes big CITY (Chitago) idiots think they are God !!! If you farmed both sides do the hunting rights go with the farming - check it out . There is a bill pending in the Illinois State Legislature to stop shi!!! like this.

Criminal law school time. There are more than one type of arrests. Probable cause and on view in particular. If an officer sees you robbing a bank, per your judgement, he can't arrest you. Plenty of departments have trespass agreements on file and can arrest anytime it's violated. Best defense to solving a sticky situation is to piss of an arresting officer. Unfortunately, CPD isn't going to enforce Dupage River violations. My advice is layoff the river. Go check the city and village counsel minutes of adjoining city and villages. Might foreshadow your punishment this upcoming season.
