Gun safe recommendations please!

Postby Tgunz_64 » Fri Mar 14, 2014 1:15 am

Looking to get a gun safe in the near future but don't want to break the bank. Looking for something that holds 25-30 guns. And have a decent fire rating. What do you guys have or would recommend? Thanks!

I got a digital 24 gun Stack On fire proof safe this summer. It's rated for 1400 degrees for 30 minutes. I got it for $700 from Sports Authority. I like it a lot, better than the rinky dink I had.

I bought a Winchester safe from tractor supply for $700. I'm happy with it. I liked it over the cannon of similar price because the door opens a full 180 degrees. The cannon has hidden hinges so the door doesn't open quite as far. The Browning safes are nice but a little more than I could spend. Not sure about other safes but the cannon and Winchester have life time warrenty for fire or burglerey.

I have a winchester safe that is rated 1 hour fire protection with digital . 30 guns is a lot of guns if they are all long guns. I don't think the brand makes a big difference, they are all mostly similar. The differences are in the thickness of the metal, the size, the fire rating and electronic or dial . Get a safe that holds more guns than you want to store. If you want to store 30 long guns and you get a 30 gun safe you either won't be able to get them all in or they will be so tightly packed you wnt be able to easily get at them. Get a safe that is rated at least 1 hour fire protection and electronic digital not dial. The size safe you need will be over $1000 but that is cheap protection for that number of guns. It will last multiple lifetimes.

Thanks for the input guys! I looked at canons and liberty's at a couple local stores. And cabelas(liberty), and browning online. Browning is a little pricey for me but they are nice safes. I thought the quality of the canon was slightly less than liberty. But prices right. Anyway I think I may have narrowed it down to the liberty fatboy jr. The website says the upped the rating from 45min to. 1 hour. And the store near me has it at a good price I thought. $1099. Plus it holds 48 guns . Plenty of room.

Liberty Fatboy Jr gun safe is a good choice. Good safe good price. Be sure to bolt it to the floor. I use it for guns and I keep valuables, jewelry and important documents in it.

To me you cannot beat the price point of the fat boy price/what you are getting.

I think I'm with you yj. After looking at all the different manufacturers and models out there I think the fatboy jr is a great value. And in the range I want to spend. As soon as I find out if I'm getting the house I'm in the middle of buying I'll pick it up. I'd do it now but just don't have the room. And a safe that big I don't want to move twice anyway!

Most safes really fit only about half the number they state--you'd have to put you guns in socks otherwise. I like how Browning has gun storage in the door.
