K9 Advantix 2 (bad reactions to it)

Postby click » Sun May 11, 2014 7:48 am

Ok so has anyone else on here had problems using the above product on their retrievers? We just used it on our almost 2 year old 80 lbs CBR on yesterday morning. by the time i was done applying it as the instructions said the dog was loosing his mind. I thought knowing the dog he was being a little dramatic, so we put him up in his kennel and then ran some erands. when we got home he was still freaking out, took him out gave him a bath in dawn dish soap to get that crap off him. You could tell the poor guy felt he we put buteric acid on his hind end. It appears like this type of reaction isn't un heard of, but it's new to me. He has never had any issue with frontline, but i have been told that the new frontline is not as good as the old stuff was. Any advice on what to use for ticks, because i will not be putting that crap back on my dog.

Always used Frontline so can't be much help.

I have seen the comment twice now on this Forum about Frontline not being 'as good'. I'm not sure why that would be only given their patent expired and is now reproducible by 3rd parties.

I have not used Advantix 2 but I do use Advantage Multi for heartworm and flea control. No problems with it. It is good heartworm coverage on top of fleas and ticks. I want to say that my vet said it isn't that good for ticks but they arent an issue here so ask your vet before switching if you decide to. Other than that he has no adverse reactions to it and is heartworm and flea free in south louisiana. I know its the same company but may have slightly different ingredients.

I've always liked advantix, but it never seemed to last as long as frontline. If you have any more advantix that you don't want, feel free to mail it to me and I'll give it a good home.

Advantix works great on my dogs but frontline did not. My lab and dads aussie farm dog both had a flea and tick problem on frontline. I have recently heard about the cattle ear tags wrapped around a collar. I have plenty of them in the barn, im going to look into it more. Especially to make sure its not too much for a lesser weight dog. But if it not I cant see a cheaper more effective way and ill switch over.

I've been using advantix II for the last couple years. It's worked great in our tick infested world up here. I'm not sure what the difference is between the regular and the II versions, maybe check that out. I really like the advantix compared to frontline because of the repellent part. My dogs would always have gnat bites on their under sides when we're training through the summer and since switching to advantix, that has gone away.

My dog has been on Advantix 2 since he was a pup (he is 14 months now) and I have seen hear recently that it is not working very well. Vet told me that if he swims a lot, which he does, it doesn't last as long and to apply it every 3 weeks instead of every month. I am going to try that and see what happens.

I know this has nothing to do with the original post but it's somewhat on topic.
