What a crazy weekend. So we've had this spot picked out for a little over a month now. Scouted it out, found out where they are roosting and where they come out of the woods to feed in this wheat field. I snuck out in the afternoon and built a blind using chicken wire stretched between two round bales and put some grass in it. We went up on Saturday to make sure the blind was still up and we discovered that all the grass and surrounding woodlands had been burned. Don't know if it was controlled or not. But our haybales are now two large smoldering coals. We were on our way up the next morning to determine if we could still hear some gobbling in what was left of the woods and we almost ran into another flock much closer to home and in a more ideal situation. Guess it wasnt so bad after all.
