Are there banded birds in az?

Postby Infamous20 » Wed Jan 09, 2008 10:41 am

I have yet to shoot a banded bird and I was wondering who has shot a banded bird in ariozona?

How many bands have you got from arizona?

What types of birds? What part of the season early, mid or late season?

And what areas? (dont have to give me specific locations just curious)

Thanks to everyone hunting in az!!!

I do know of a few being shot every year, in AZ. I have a friend who shot a Greenhead this year. Another friends who shot a Cinnamon teal about 6 years ago. Not common anywhere. Unless you live next to the refuge that they were banded at.

I have been of legal shooting age since the 1988 season. And have exactly 1 band on my lanyard. and one other I inadvertantly gave away. told some guy it was his even tho I knew I shot it because he couldn't shoot worth a lick. had a reward band on it. dope.

When you see pictures of guys with tons of bands they are hunting close to where the birds are banded. Especially geese are easy pickings early season close to banding spots. My friends shot 18 banded geese in 2 days in Wisconsin last year. All of them banded in the same place 15 miles from where they were shot.
Have you ever woke up one day and said. Damn when does the season start.

What kind of awards can you get from a band?

Most bands you send in the numbers and you will get a certificate back saying where the bird was banded, how old it was when banded and then the date you reported the kill and its location.

They have double banded ducks which are called generically reward bands. They will have a band on each leg. ONe of which will have a dollar amount on it. You send it in and they give you the usual certificate, and a check for $25, $50 or $100.
