What's been your best shooting?

Postby REDGUN » Mon Apr 14, 2008 8:35 am

Went out saturday and shot our local club sporting clays tournament. Then after lunch, we went and shot skeet and trap practice. Shot 284 out of 300 for the day. Got me thinking. Whats been my best shooting??
Biggest win for me was the 2004 Zone 6 sporting clays championship HOA.

Best shooting was at an Ironman tournament. At this tounament we shot:
1. 25 sporting clays targets
2. 25 trap targets
3. 25 trap double targets
4. 25 skeet targets
5. 25 skeet double targets
6. 25 5-stand targets

Ran the first 125 targets but missed three 5-stand targets for a total of 147 out of 150.

With a rifle, fired a 2 3/4" 5 shot group @ 500 yards the first time we shot at that distance.

Whats you guy's "best" shooting day?

I would like to start shooting some sporting Clays

Army Navy matches, Not my best but my most memorable and a great learning experience

Open sights out to 600 yards M1A Match rifles I placed 32nd out of 390 shooters. And it was my first time shooting that distance with open sights.

If I get 45 out of 50 on our sporting clays course I am happy.

best shooting

Postby brampus » Wed Apr 16, 2008 8:21 pm

My best day ever, I shot a 99 straight in sporting clays to win the north east DU shoot at Addieville in RI. I dropped the last target of the day. I was on a roll that same month I won three other shoots around the north east 97,94,94. I've never had a month like that since.

I only shoot trap competitively so my best are all in trap......
I have shot 100 straight in singles numerous times. My average is usually 97-98 for the year.
In handicap a 99 is my best. Usually average around 92-93.
In doubles a 99 is my best. I average 96 so I am getting frustrated not shooting a 100.

I have shot 100 straight in skeet but it was just fooling around practicing.

I have only had the opportunity to shoot sporting clays a very few times. My best was a 47 out of 50. I think it was a pretty easy course though.

I am really just getting started with sporting clays and trap shooting. You guys really humble me. I am really happy to break 40 on the sc range. With the trap shoots I am in the upper 80s consistantly. I need to learn how my guns shoot. There are he little corrections that I need to learn to hopefully make me a better shooter.

best sporting clays score was an 84/100 at the nssa nationals course in san antonio, that was my only competitive shoot and also one of the hardest courses ive ever shot. For just rec. shoots ive done multiple 25/25 skeet shoots.
Shoot to wound!

oh crap... is that a swan?

only two 100 trap in the ATA shoots but several in practice.

only one 200 straigh in trap.

Never did much skeet , but two 50's and 4-5 25's, once I mastered stations 3 & 4.

As for sporting clays, I still have 3 tickets for a free shoot, still in my wallet.

Do it now while your eyes are young , things get ugly when you have to start wearing Bi-focals and you

To quote Bruce Lee "boards don't hit back".

Han Solo in Star Wars- "Good against droids is one thing. Good against the living is something else".

OK enough goofy quotes! My best shooting that comes to mind-

The day I shot a triple on a covey flush with my 870...to later realize I had no choke in.

The time I shot a PD at a measured 466 yards. I had a pretty nice rig handed to me to make that shot.

I shot a coyote once at about 600 yards with a .22-250 I had a steady rest and no wind.
I am sorry to say he was wounded and not recovered, and I have regretted taking that shot ever since. It would be another 5 seasons before I would take a shot at a coyote over 100 yards. Last year I killed one at 300 yeards with a NEF Handirifle chambered in .223 I would much rather shoot them at 60 yards, but that fella last year sat down on a hill and starred at me for a long time. It was a fatal error.

That is some really good shooting . When a Guy ,shoots the best score ,he has ever shot , you're King for the Day and should Be !
I'm always Hot and Cold , There are days when I can break targets blind folded ,and then there are times I do the stupidest
things for no reason , I know what I've done wrong to miss the target so ,why can't a guy remember ,not to do it ? OH Well ,
my names not in the Hall of Fame so ,I just smile and say , You dirty son of a ...... and use ALL ,I mean ALL, the excuses that A True target shooter learns along the way !

Just over 2 years ago. I shot trap on my high school team. We traveled down to the state high school shoot. Shot a few practice rounds then it started raining. And not just a drizzle rain, I mean it was just a straight down pour the entire time we shot. I busted a 97 BUT I had shot three 25's in a row. Missed the last 3 birds on post 5 on the fourth round. I was a little upset.

The odd thing about it was the fact that I didn't even place. It was a strange year. Something like 9 people shot 99's and like 14 people shot perfect 100. Oh well. It was still fun.

That's really good and you showed ,you have the ability to compete . You ,like some of us ,need to shoot more in competition
shoots and get the bugs out of your head so ,the last three targets are shot like the First Three . In time ,you can do it !

OK , you have shot enough skeet targets to know where every target is coming from or going to and you know how much forward
allowance it takes to put the center of the pattern on the target SO, get-it in your head that you are going to pay attention and be consistent in your move ,mount and shoot routine .
