A-5 Owners --- Roll Call

Postby vahunter2469 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 4:48 pm

Walked up to a guy last week with $475 on a 1955 A-5 standard 12ga made in Belgium, all original except the wood finish. Bluing was in great condition! Had a 27.5" fixed mod barrel. I walked away and I'm not sure I made the right decision. What do y'all think?

Only reason I walked away is because I wanted a 12 magnum a little more.

Just picked up my second A-5, a 1946 model with 2.75 inch chamber and a solid rib. This is the standard model and comes with the original factory installed Polychoke. It is in 90 % condition. Please forwarn the ducks in Wisconsin that it will be arriving on 10-22-2012 for some wackin and stackin. Gonna be joined by a 1968 A-5 magnum. Ducks and geese beware!  :hi: :welcome:

can anyone tell me for certain if its safe to hot blue the barrels on 1970s A5s,im concerned that if there soldered on the caustic will eat into it causing the rib to come off ,has anyone hot blued their barrel?

You never have two many A-5:

1966 Round knob 3" Mag (came with two factory barrel's, never fired) now sporting Hasting 34" barrel, 12 for 12 on Geese.

1967 3" Mag 20 Gage like new condition (still had grease under the forarm) and not fired.

1993 3 " Mag 12 Gage with 30" barrel, invector plus choke system (Made in Japan) 98%

Heading to Tulsa OK, gun show next weekend might need to shop around for another. Almost sold the 1993 but came back to my right mind.

I have had the two top guns sent to Art's and switched over to factoy left hand safetys along with an complete cleaning and test firing. I might need to do this on the 1993 model.

well with all these A5 owners maybe some of you can address my concern. I am thinking about getting one for my primary duck gun, but I was wondering if any of y'all had took the gun for A swim and if it is a lot of trouble to clean. Also does the water greatly effect the function of the gun. Last season after an early morning trip over a root turned my sx3 into a glorified single shot for the rest of the day.

Never dunked one of mine, but I tore a '51 Belgian 16 gauge completely down for a thorough cleaning and spring replacement - it was a tedious job. I am fortunate to have a retired gunsmith buddy who had the right screwdrivers and knowledge to walk me through the job. He taught me his pattern for laying out all the parts to reassemble later. Like all things mechanical, once you do it several times it is easier, but I would have had a tough time on my own the first time without his knowledge to guide me.

A 1955 Light 12 2.75 barrel with a factory Cutts Compensatoe and a !965 12 magnum with full choke. Looking for a 30 inch barrel with a mod choke for the magnum or I will be shootin tungsten. Either way with 3 A5s and a Winchester Model 12 Featherweight pump I should be well armed.  So forewarn them ducks and geese!!!!!!!!!!! :lol3: :lol3: :hammer:

Just picked up a 1935 in excelent condition. Has a cutts compensator and vent rib added sometime in the late50's, and the bolt and carrier have been jeweled. Took it out and shot it the other day at some clays, and I believe it will become my new phesant gun

Anyone shooting steel out of a fixed modified barrel? If so, how has it patterned with your loads? I know all guns are different, just want to get an idea.

Beautiful! Please next time, lay down a mat or blanket for them to lay on! Sweet Sixteen is one of my favorite guns, would also like to get my hands on that light 20.

Thanks! They all belonged to my father and grandfather. Sorry about the blanket. The picture was just for record keeping. They live in a much nicer home.
