PIERRE, S.D. – West River deer units for Gregory and Mellette counties would have more antlerless deer licenses under a recent Game, Fish and Parks Commission proposal.
"The number of West River deer licenses approved by the commission in June was in error from the desired license allocations requested by GFP staff for Gregory and Mellette counties," said Wildlife Program Administrator Tony Leif. "This proposal will correct those license numbers and help ensure adequate antlerless deer harvest is achieved in those units."
Adjusted antlerless license numbers would include:
Gregory County unit 30A: Increase antlerless licenses from 0 to 150.
Gregory County unit 30B: Increase antlerless licenses from 0 to 150.
Mellette County unit 50A: Increase antlerless licenses from 75 to 200.
Mellette County unit 50B: Increase antlerless licenses from 75 to 100.
To comment on the proposal, people can attend the public hearing at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, in Yankton, or write Game, Fish and Parks, 523 E. Capitol, Pierre, S.D. 57501. E-mail comments can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org Comments must include full name and address.
