Dove Hunting question

Postby Duckbuster109 » Mon Aug 15, 2005 9:22 pm

I have never been dove hunting but I've been invited to go this season by a friend. He said that we'd be hunting in a milo field here in Louisiana. What gear should I bring with me and what type of camo should I wear. I'm a duck hunter so I have all of that gear. I know I don't have to shoot steel, but for ducks I use a Moss 835 w/full choke and I shoot 3.5" #2 or BB. What do you guys recommend for doves?

Thanks for any help!

all you need is

hat
camo shirt
dark shorts
plenty of water
a stool
improved or modified choke
2 3/4in #7.5

and if you bring a dog bring plety of water for it to, a budy of mines dog got dehidrated and passed out one time.

And if at all cost find a short sleve shirt. In South Dakota it can sometimes be 90 and all you have is long sleves. It gets hot fast. And i would buy whatever shells that are on sale. Like i bought a case of #6 PMC the other day for doves. All it cost me was 20 bucks.

:withstupid:

Don't forget bug spray and if you burn easily, some sun screen. I always like to have a game belt, you know one with the 2 big side pouches and one in the back. I put shells in the front 2 and birds in the back. They are a lot cooler than vests.
If the hunting is cold, luckily so is the beer!

They say not to mix bug spray and sunblock. I suppose you can spray your clothes heavily and hope that it keeps bugs away and then still wear the sunscreen?

They say if you eat bug spray and sunblock your can rub your own poop on yourself and repel both the sun and bugs.

At least its not a public field where everyone is tanked by 2:00. texasduckblaster is on the money regarding gear.

The only thing I would add is Toliet paper. I hope you had a good dove hunt.
