Richmond Lake Recreation Area Hosts Amateur Disc Golf Champi

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Grab your flying discs and warm-up your throwing arm. Disc golfers across the state are invited to compete in the 2005 South Dakota Amateur Disc Golf Championship. Registrations are now being taken for the tournament, which will be held Sept. 9-11at Richmond Lake Recreation Area near Aberdeen.

Participants will play three rounds of 18 holes, with two rounds on Saturday and the final round on Sunday morning. Tees will change with each round to vary the course.

Divisions and entry fees are as follows:

Advanced - $45
Advanced Master - $45
Women - $35
Intermediate - $35
Junior - $20
The tournament is a Professional Disc Golf Association B-tier sanctioned event, and PDGA members can deduct $5 from their entry fee. Pre-registration is required by Sept. 1 and registration forms are available at the Richmond Lake park office, by emailing or by calling (605) 226-9917.

Disc golfers can also participate in two additional competitions during the weekend event. On Friday night, Sept. 9, there will be a team putting contest. On Saturday afternoon, players can show off their throwing skills in the distance contest. Entry fees are $10 per two-person team for the putting contest and $5 per person for the distance contest. Prizes will be awarded to the top placers in each of the contests.

The tournament will take place at the disc golf course at Richmond Lake Recreation Area’s Forest Drive unit, located 10 miles northwest of Aberdeen off U.S. 281. Camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Richmond Lake campground located across the lake. For more information on the park, visit or call (605) 626-3488.

The tournament is sponsored by the following agencies and Aberdeen area businesses: Aberdeen Area Disc Golf Association, Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, Aberdeen Convention and Visitors Bureau, S.D. Game, Fish and Parks – Division of Parks and Recreation, CD Exchange, Creakyback Graphics, Pepsi Cola, Thatzza Pizza and Vistar/Roma.
