A little Juneau goose action

Postby Erich_870 » Wed Nov 19, 2008 12:01 pm

I couldn't get off work for the super high tide with wind on Friday, I was able to play hookie on Sat and nail this big 12lb boy!

I talked to some guys I passed on the way out who informed me the geese had been coming in everyday in the afternoon. Sure enough right after high tide, in comes this guy and 4 dozen of his best buds.

I only had duck decoys out, so I kept quite and they landed 60-75 yards out. I'd hoped they'd just swim on by. It wasn't until I started making some ducky noises that they said "oh, those are just ducks!" and they came chattering and honking right into range. Now if only I had been carrying more than just #2 shot, I'd have had three birds.

All in all it was a pretty good day.

Went out Friday off the Dike Trial and managed these two beauties and a nice drake mallard.

I knocked down a third goose that sailed out into deeper water and became seal bait

The weather was cooperative with 15-20 mph winds from the east and plenty of rain.

I just got the goose floaters as an early Christmas present and they've earned thier keep

Yep, they winter in our local hunting rufuge from November thru April, then they head out to remote islands and high muskegs.

Shot my first triple on the day before my first child was born. :grooving:
