Sorry guys, my computer has been in and out of the shop since then. Anyways, NGPC said that there are mountain lions in NE. They think that we are getting a population started in the Pine Ridge (Chadron area). There are no "confirmed" signs of mountain lions in the eastern third of the state. What they consider a "confirmatioin" is tracks, hair, pictures or video. They dont deny the you may have saw a mountain lion in the eastern part of the state.
They say that males will travel hundreds of miles looking for a female. If you have seen a lion it was more than likley a young male that was kicked out of his home range by a dominat male looking for a female.
Food is not an issue for males. They are looking for females. Young females are kicked out of there home range by there moms and are looking to start a home range of there own. They usually travel 50-100 miles.
Young males collered in South Dakota have been found as far away as Chicago and Oklahoma.
I think this sums up the meeting. Like I said if one of these meetings comes to your area go you will learn alot. The NGPC has a place on there web site that will tell you more than me. Check it out if you want more info.
Dont shoot where they have been, shoot where they are going.
