Meet a Distinguished Diver – the Northern Gannet

July 21, 2010 by USFWS

Northern Gannets are among the birds being most impacted by the BP Oil Spill. This species is renowned for its diving skill, with flocks of up to a thousand birds diving some 130 feet into the ocean. During their first three years, the birds remain at sea year round. Oiled gannets are presently being treated at four rehab centers responding to the spill.
