Neutering older dog

Looking for opinions on neutering my 8 year old pointer in order to bring a female lab puppy into the house. I know the breeder and his dogs. The puppy is his payment for stud fee. I recently put my lab down and he reached out to me.

At that age IMO it is more about the anesthetic used vs the removal of parts.

At one time the vets here had a preferred anesthetic for older dogs (not as hard on their systems vs the regular everyday one). Since that time, our vet has changed all patients to the "easier on the system" drug regardless of age. You might want to ask ....

Have the female spade at the proper time. I see no point in putting your male through that unless you are planning on breeding the female.
