Pup killed at trainers

Tue Oct 13, 2020 11:26 am

Long story short I took my 6 month old lab to a trainer. He said he’d need a year with him to get him to where I wanted him. After about a year since seeing my pup I get a call saying my dog and several others were killed in a accident at his kennel. Before the accident I’ve paid him over 11k in training fees. I let things settle down for a while until I reached out again on if any kind of insurance he had covers anything for my pup. He says “it is what it is”. So I’m out a dog, 11k In training and the 2k I paid for the pup. Not too sure what step to take next on this or if there is any. Anyone have any advice or run into a situation like this? Thanks

That is terrible news to hear. Sure sorry about your pup. I'd be pressing the trainer about recovery of your expenses or I'd be making a call to an attorney.

Damned. That's Horrible!! Sorry to hear it.

Kind of hard to know without more details but agree an attorney should have a path. Things like "was this a registered buisness".

Hate to rubber-neck but let us know how this plays out.

I would think most well to do trainers would have some kinda policies for accidents........now the Part time trainers that work regular 9-5 jobs then train on the side would be a differnt story.

So sorry to hear about that!! I couldnt begin to even think what your going thru!!

That’s awful to hear. Sorry for your loss but I gotta ask- what kind of accident killed several dogs at a kennel?

That's terrible! Feel horrible about those dogs. Imagine they were all solid dogs if owners were paying for professional training.
I'd not take the loss lying down.

I’d imagine some type of property, business, something insurance has to come into play on this. Fingers crossed something comes out of it, and really sorry for your loss. That’s tough.

That's what I thought as well but he's ignored my texts and calls. I did see barton created a gofundme page but I figured I would of heard something back by now.

He may be a little busy and having to sort out legal liability before he can comment or make commitments. That’s my hope for you at least.

Sorry to hear about your loss and I hope something gets figured out soon for you. I would think they would have some sort of insurance but unfortunately a lot of these small training operations don't have anything setup for an incident like this.

Your homeowners insurance may help. You'd need a final value of the dog after it's trained.

Sorry about you're loss . That's tough . If he was a real Pro , I would think his kennel had insurance . Good luck

Sorry for your loss my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Now go get a good lawyer that hunts. You need a lawyer that understands hunting and dog training.

Don't wait any longer get legal representation and sue the trainer for your loss plus the emotional stress he has created.
