50% is typical for gas engines, in my experience. My gas truck goes from 18mpg to 10 when pulling some weight. My diesel goes from 17mpg empty to 16 loaded.

The newer dodges are terrible. My 95 Dakota (6 cyl) would get 23 hwy and drop down to about 18 pulling my 17' boat. My 2003 gets 18 hwy and drops down to about 10 with the same load......

My Ram has a 5.7 L Hemi and loves gas stations . 16 empty vs. 10 pulling the decoy trailer.

That darn trailer cost me double on my gas bill this year. Still nice to have it.

I got 20mpg when I went to pick up my new trailer. On the way back with the new toy, I dropped to 11. Im guessing 8 to 9 with it loaded. Luckily, I dont have to pull it very far, usually less than one hour. There will be a few 2 hour trips this season as well. Cant wait. Its only money!

2013 F150 3.5L eco boost
I saved average MPG since I bought truck - never towing anything I average 18.7 MPG over 80k miles.
1700 mile trip each way to north dakota was showing around 10 mpg with trailer 6x12.
