Benelli SBE3 & M2’s Still Shooting High?

Postby Crazy Coot » Sat Feb 22, 2020 5:18 pm

I shouldered several guns today and the SBE3 fits my by far the best, with the M2 second. I've been reading reviews and it sounds like the early ones they made all patterned high. For those of you that have bought one recently, are they still patterning high?

IIRC, when reading the complaints about SBE III’s shooting high, not one mentioned trying the factory supplied shims to remedy it.

I bought my M2 about three years ago, and it was shooting high. I switched out shims, and that did the trick for me.

Have it in my head that most folks across the Atlantic want their guns regulated to shoot a bit high, which could explain at least some of it. Know my circa '90s HK imported SBE shot a little high and I never found reason to change it.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

My m2 is about a year old and it shoots probably 70-30...

Shims are just to get you to look straight down the barrel without seeing any rib. The one SBE 3 I shimmed and shot pattern a good foot high at 25 yards showing no rib. That’s only a sample size of one, but it seems based on data from this website that others have found the same thing.

I bought a brand new sbe 3 a week ago and it shoots right where I put the bead. I used the shims to look flat down the rib. The one I sold to buy a new one shot the same way too. They both shoot 55/45

Most European guns just shoot high.

If you see any of the rib/barrel it’s likely because you quit pointing and started aiming.

I used to think my M2 shot high. I was used to front heavy shotguns like the SX3 and the 870. I was not mounting the M2 properly and it shot high. Once I started mounting my M2 correctly, my patterns improved.

If you call 10-12” high and 6” to the right within Benelli specs then mine was good. Never been so disappointed in a $2000 gun in my life. Not so sure I will ever look there way again. My XTreme plus puts it to shame

I want to say that my supernova shot a little high and shins didn’t help. Sold it and got a franchi affinity and that’s dead on. I have 2 affinity’s now, a 3 (wife uses for hunting ) and a 3.5. Both shoot dead on where you point them.

Old thread but came across it.
I have a 2020 SBE3. It shoots perfect 60/40 patterns.
No adjustments made and no complaints.

Know its old but thought I could add my experience if it helps anyone.
My father and I are avid duck hunters (since 8yo). Been shooting Benelli M2's since they came out and have never had one shoot high or off (have owned about 4 between the 2 of us). Lots of other guys at the club have never had an issue either.

In fact, when shooting Brenneke KO slugs thru my M2 with just the bead it shoots dead on about 2" group at 40yd with just the bead. We shoot them with the largest drop inserts (Z I think?).

Added a Vinci, shot fine but sent it back for busting my finger.
Added an SBE3 and it patterns fine as well.
