Remington 870 410g shooting steel

Postby creavi04 » Thu Jun 18, 2020 11:39 am

Have a Remington 870 410g with a fixed full barrel. Has anybody ever shot steel or bismuth through one? if so what kind of loads? Looking to break it out this waterfowl season just to change things up a little bit

Yeah, the high dollar stuff should be cool. Neat gun. Hope a lot of birds come down in front of ya this season.

I've shot steel 6 and steel 7. No problems.

Given you're kind of limited with pellet size to get any kind of density, you should have no problem shooting small steel. Clearly you're better off with the high density stuff and TSS. I saw a Ducks Unlimited TV spot one time (I think it was DU...) where guys in a certain club HAD to shoot 410 due to some weird restrictions and rules the club had for some part of the season.... Seemed really weird but regardless they were smoking ducks at 30 yards and under using small steel.

Would you consider sending bbl to have threaded for chokes?

410 chokes are shot at 25 yards instead of 40 like other shot guns. So a full choke in a 410 is a full at 25 yards. Not as much constriction so steel should be fine especially since you'll be using 6 or smaller
