Had to shorten barrel on A5 - Now what?

Postby AXL6984 » Tue May 04, 2021 8:01 am

I was fortunate to inherit a 12 ga. Browning A-5, and am having some thign srepaired on it.
It had a broken compensator on the end of the barrel, a crazy looking thing for which they cut several inches off the barrel.
Sent it to Briley, who cut it off, threaded for interchangeable chokes, and now I have a 20" barrel.
I thought I'd try this before buying a new barrel, especially once gunsmith told me it would not impact the performance of the gun.
Does anyone have any experience with a shortened barrel on a shotgun like this?
I would like to keep it as original as possible unless buying a new barrel is the only way it will perform for shooting birds.

**This is not a question about shooting steel through an old A5 barrel.

20'' barrel seams kind of squirrely to swing and hunt with but anything is possible. I guess.
