Constant flight of Sandhill Cranes heading NNE over the house here in Auburn. Sure sign it's spring...as far as they're concerned anyway. They do the same thing in the fall going in the opposite direction signalling a new season.

Better hope Spring hasn't sprung yet as irrigation season will need to be started early , even though , we don't have
much water !

Checked out a new spot at the 'Honey Hole' ranch
Beautiful set up for ducks. After the Canada shoot begins to thin after a couple of weeks in adjoining corn field, it will be all Mallards in the new spot.
After a few Russian Olives are trimmed, masses of grass that are a perfect match for my blind grass up will hide the eight man blind at water's edge perfectly!
I'm pumped! At least three out of four favorite spots will be in corn.
I reckon we will see a few near hundred bird days for friends and family!

40*s and 50*s for a few days, then back came the snow yesterday morning, and again this morning. Just skiffs, but more predicted tomorrow and again the next day, but long range forecast says mid 60*s are on the way here in E. Idaho.
I can see why this California thread is so dead, my little town has California plates all over the place moving in to stay, and they all look happy! They will probably all be posting in the Idaho thread soon!
On another note, I took a brand new 'Idahoan' from S. California fishing on the bank of the Snake river Friday afternoon, and I landed an 18 inch Brown trout on second cast. Bank too steep at next place for stringer, stopped so I wrapped him in several twists of a large net I use, and sat on a rock to change hooks about ten or twelve feet from the net.
I got up to move and the net was unwrapped and fish was gone just that quick. It was dead, so either a Mink got it, or an Otter got it without a sound, or the field full of Honkers right behind me drowned out the sound. I do not begrudge that critter his meal, I prefer Rainbows anyway!

Waiting on friend this morning who pours his own jig heads.
He's going to do some for me as well and is delivering today. Can't wait to put them to good use. We catch the heck out of Smallies.
Sometimes big trout on 'em too. 24" Brown last year, and a 21' Rainbow as well.
