My friend Cliff sent me this pic today . He has been enjoying a lot of success hunting public for those January ducks . Low pressured birds lend to high quality hunts . January; Kansas waterfowling at it`s finest .

Cliff " Nobody hunting. Very little calling, birds circle once or twice feet down right in the decoys. Just like the old days ".

Damn, Cliff must be a duck whisperer. I've been out three times this week and haven't seen a Mallard. Does a spoonie count?

The northern migration is on. I as at McPherson a few days back and tornadoes of black birds headed north where everywhere. Also theres a nice size pond 2 miles west of my home. its held about 2000 geese all winter but yesterday it probably had 6000 Canadas and a thousand snows on it. 5 miles straight north of that is another pond with probably 3000 on it and a half mile west was a green wheat field with probably a thousand snows on it. Today I drove down to Ponca City and there were loads of geese along the turnpike setting on ponds. Spring is on the way!

Don't remind me. I've knocked on somewhere around 20 doors for 15 different fields over the past few weeks. Every field was leased up by outfitters. Hard to fun hunt around that place

I've been trying to get permission around NE Kansas all season. I think I'm maybe 1 for 10 on that. It seems every landowner has had someone rut up their field or leave a gate open so they don't allow people to hunt anymore. Maybe they hear my accent and it scares em lol

Charlie I think you hit the nail on the head . Cliff continues to amaze me . He certainly has a knack for finding the birds . I met Cliff decades ago when we both found ourselves hunting the same goose field . We hunted together that afternoon and have enjoyed many great hunts since that day. Cliff puts in the works, he scouts hard and often finds success off the beaten path. He is a waterfowl whisperer for certain . I`ve included a few picks of memorable hunts I have had with Cliff .
