Not many of those around... primarily pheasant, or going all the way with Versatile training?

You could say momma loves water. She is local, but she was bred out in Idaho under the supervision of North America's pudelpointer guru.

As I learned with my Drahthaar, these dogs aren't labs. But they are solid retrievers that can do >90% of what well trained hunting (not testing) lab can do.

And they also pound the CRP :hammer:

From Lucy or havoc? And that's awesome, still want a pp myself. Tims dogs seem very trainable.

Nope. Different kennel. I’m stuck on labs. They’re sooooooooo easy. :grooving:

I do love labs. Never gets old watching them do their thing. Kind of the instapot of dogs. Set it and forget it, and get great results.

These ugly dogs are like the old fashioned pressure cookers. Can work just as well but sometimes the potatoes end up on the ceiling.

My buddy always says “the difference between them is, you’re running a Porsche (vhd)... I’m running a Toyota (lab)...” :lol3:

Chessies are great dogs. I would call them the diesel truck of the dog world.
It was my buddies analogy, so I’m just throwin’ darts.

No breed is superior. Training is superior. :hammer: :grooving: :hi:

My wife wanted a chocolate lab. I prefer labs for myself, as it’s all I’ve ever had or needed. Like I said. They’re just easy and I like that. Especially as I get older and lazier... :help:

PP's really interest me. I heard like 90% plus of them are hunting dogs so it seems like a can't miss. I follow the Rock Creek kennel on social media. Mostly because I thought it was bad ass that they run them like sled dogs in the winter.

I think I am stuck on labs for a bit, because that is what my wife likes.

If I had to get a wirehair I would get a Griffon though. My great Uncle had one that was a National Champion I hunted behind when it was older, 10 + years. I was just a kid then but it was a great dog.

Those wirehairs do tear up the CRP. My buddy has a two year old slick hair in Dakota that is one of the best pheasant dogs I have seen. Not super great at waterfowl though.

Funny thing about that...when I hunted with Pepper as a kid my Grandpa would tell me she was a National Champion. I knew my Granda and Great Uncle bred shorthairs and ran trials with them but I didn't understand what that all meant.

Fast forward to four years ago when my Grandpa passed away, my mom found that news paper article while cleaning out my Grandpa's apartment. She showed it to me, I snapped a picture on my phone and we sent the original copy to my great Uncle in Northern Iowa.

That’s cool!!

I fear down the road I will be stuck with a lab.

Hard to argue a smaller size as the lab/chessie mutt is only 55-60lbs and she is perfect for my style of hunting.

Though if Tsamps newest is close in size to his male when grown I will kick I to over drive convincing the wife to go full chessie! Just not sure how to win the fight over rough nappy hair?

I can't think of a truer statement lol

I can't wait to get my dog in 10 days and actually be part of the dog conversation lol

I was told first thing I should do is go and start posting in the honey hole and hunting dog thread lmao

Stuck with a lab..?

I’ve never heard those words uttered. I see if a guy/gal prefers something else... but stuck with one..? If a fella/gal can’t get a quality hunting lab to hunt, good luck with him/her training anything else... they’re the Remington 870s of the hunting world... the Timex of the hunting dog world. Yep... you can spend more, but it doesn’t guarantee more.

My point...

I like turtles...  :lol3:
