Made friends with a farmer that has a goose problem. Kill geese and I can hunt dove, ducks, and deer on his property. The geese are spread out, and have not been in the same place on 3 different scouts. Image
Got out for a solo dove shoot. 2.5 hours.

2020-2021 Season Picture Thread

Postby razorrt5 » Wed Sep 02, 2020 8:04 am

I’m gonna vent ....... and celebrate.... first off worst goose opener ever I’ve never hunted an opener and not at least seen birds.... we had a plan A,B,C on some public land that is normally hunted by 1-3 small groups on an opening morning..... got there at 3 am which is unheard of up here and there was already 9 trucks in the parking lot..... I’ll give y’all a guess where half those licenses plates were from ( guess the out of state students decided to come back to campus). So we left since it was gonna be a total goat rodeo..... totally winged it and setup in a spot on a lake suggested by the group... so got to deploy the new boat on a hunt but never saw a goose packed it up at 945

Decided with the weather I’d take my oldest on her first hunt in the PM since the wind is not gonna work the next few days. Again we didn’t see a single goose, but did get her out and the dog too, was good for me to learn how she’s gonna hunt in the boat with the blind and having her work through all that.

so it was a day of extremes... extreme disappointment and extreme happiness

Got my first bear last night! I think I will try this again in a few years.

Actually had a bigger one come in second night and I got super excited and made a bad shot. Blood trailed for an hour until it was dried up. Likely creased a shoulder.

So last night sat on a different bait and this little fella walked in broadside and took a 30-30 to his lungs.

Only made it about 25 yards.....but the blood took a good 125 to follow.

Forgive the “dirty” fur. This is where we found it. And good it does there. Any further and we’d have lost him.

Yeah I gotta find out if I like the meat as well. One bud doesn’t like it except as burger mix. 2 others love it.

Haha Wally!

I had some fly past the stand Wednesday. All I could think was “that’s my luck to. E sitting between to spruce bogs staring at bear bait and doves show up”

Nice work on the [emoji199]! Our group only shoots now if we get a head shot. Had a couple wounded bear that got away on us in the past and had some not so fun encounters with wounded bear in the bush which is not cool.

I wanted head shot but had a bad shot going for head on Wednesday.

So 170 grains at 20 yards punching lungs works.
