Though the true meaning has been deluded with fiction of Indians saving the Pilgrims with maize (corn), nothing could be further from the truth.

The Pilgrims took the terrible two month sea trip to escape religious persecution, and in hopes of reaching this new world where they would create their own shared resources utopia. They agreed that in this new society, all would work for the greater good and put all production into a central store where all would take their fair share. Sound familiar?

In short order, the young men did not like that they did most of the hard physical work for others. The women did not like cooking and providing for other families. And I have to imagine as in all of humanity, that there were people who were happy to let others do all the work, while consuming the proceeds.

As you would expect, it was not a productive arrangement, and was getting worse fast. Half of the 100 people died from disease and starvation. There were friendly Indian tribes, but they are not the welfare office and would trade, but only if you had something to trade. :fingerhead:

The Pilgrims said :censored: this, but in a puritan voice, and instead, people were given their own parcel of land and they were free to decide what they could do best. People gravitated to both their strengths and to what would best provide for them and allow them to trade for other goods. Sounds like what is now called free market capitalism.

After that, people got to work for themselves, and not the greater good, and from the abundance created from their personal liberty, they were able to use Free Market practices to trade with both other families, but also the Indians tribes.

They did so well with their individual liberty and freedom, that the misery they were experiencing ceased, and instead, they thrived. And is the practice of most religious people, they came together to give Thanks to God for seeing them through. As the Pilgrims and Indians were friendly trading partners, the Indians were included in the celebration of religious freedom and abundance.

So today, we give thanks for the same reasons. We are free to Worship as we see fit, and we are free to Pursue Happiness as individuals.

And for that I am thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Are we to view it the same way in years to come? I think we who understand will always honor the Holiday as it is intended, and for the immediate future I have faith God's people will continue to have this National day set aside as all of us have always celebrated it.
Here's to four more years of the abundance we have traditionally known, and a government that still encourages it.
So the words Fall and Autumn are not to be capitalized?
They are in my world.
