Any stamp collectors out there?

I need to gather all mine up.
But you don't see many of these. I inherited it from father in law. A 1935 first year, pristine, unsigned Federal duck stamp.
It is now framed in a small case in 'Wife's' duck decoy collection.

I always found "collecting" something boring and/or frustrating. I like beginnings and endings.

That is a fine line for me, but I believe a jury of my peers would agree with you.

If I keep everything in a photo album, does that help? Though I am sure I have some older ones, this license from 1986 was in my photo album. Back in the days when you had both federal and state stamps that must be affixed to stamp, and signed. Saw Green Jeans write a "warning" to a friend of my father for not having his stamp signed though it was attached.

Today, digital proof is all that is needed. Times change.

Ain't that a fact! If I'm not mistaken you can show your license to Green Jeans from an "app" on your phone? I would never do that because each time I'm in a life/death situation my battery is dead.

I had 20+ years of old paper hunting licenses tucked in a box of deer hunting stuff. At one point I checked the box for something and realized the economy sized bottle of Doe Urine had leaked and the licenses were happy to absorb it like a deer tampon.

I tried laying them out on the basement floor to dry but the scent apparently wafted up the stairway into the family room where the wife watches wife TV.

I lost that battle.

Waterproof (or deer urine) seals are only a temporary state. Same with waterproof boots and waders.

I have all my licenses back to 1954 and stamps to 1963. The ones you had to wear on your back are my favorites. Kinda like looking at a old diary.

Blue, Orange, Green, Purple, Yellow, Red,...I remember being so uncomfortable the 1st year not having that damned tag holder on my vest/coat back.

I save my Federal waterfowl stamp each year cancelled or not. I have a bunch of Dad's now too... coming from a long line of 'pack-rats. LOL. There's a rich heritage of artists that have won the Federal duck stamp prize. Their career is assured with that feather in their cap and the dollars that come with that accomplishment.
But what about the state waterfowl stamp program(s)? Indiana has now made it difficult to buy an actual state STAMP. Mostly just shows up as a line of fee paid of your Indiana resident license. A local fellow named Ken Bucklew was winner of multiple Indiana state waterfowl, upland and trout stamp contests over the years.
Ken always gives back through the local Ducks Unlimited chapter. His original works now fetch thousands of dollars. Back when we got together in groups of more than ten, it was a Ken Bucklew print or original that always resulted in spirited bidding and big money raised at the local DU banquets.
My point being, I wish an actual printed stamp was still mandatory; same as a Federal stamp. Each state cultivated wildlife artists that had the potential to win that big prize--Federal stamp winner-- and the artwork submitted and the winners selected enriches our waterfowling heritage across the nation. My .02 cents.

That's a prize for sure FS-- thanks for sharing. When I bought my first federal duck stamp it cost $3. I didn't keep it-- wish I had.
