Deputy faces felony charges for hunting without tags

A Lyon County Sheriff’s deputy is facing multiple felony charges for killing a buck without a hunting tag and aiding another man in killing bucks without a tag.
Deputy Allan R. Strand is set for a pretrial hearing Feb. 19 in Tonopah Justice Court. He is on paid administrative leave from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, according to Sheriff Frank Hunewill.
Strand and John C. Butterbredt face multiple felony charges dating back to fall of 2018.
According to court documents, Butterbredt shot and killed a mule deer buck at the southern end of the Toiyabe range without a hunting tag. The documents say Strand aided Butterbredt by driving him to the hunting ground and using binoculars to spot the deer for Butterbredt, a felony.
After the deer was killed, Strand helped quarter and pack out the deer, considered destroying and concealing evidence, according to the documents.

If convicted he will lose his job and hopefully his hunting privileges.
