Bigh20, with a guess of 4 Nov.

Today (4 Nov) I saw 4-5 Mergs on the river. I looked at those birds swimming and thought if they only knew how happy their arrival made me.

Its always duck season, there is just a long break from february to september.

Hyde: Ah, a controversy. Awesome.

As you are technically absolutely correct, I'll let all know when I see an actual bird listed as a diver.

Given current weather conditions, it may be halfway through December......

A couple of hen buffy's showed up with the mergs. I have never seen them out back without at least one drake.

Also: every list I see online has mergs listed as a diver.

I stand corrected, buuuuutttttt, the regs don't count them as ducks.
