The girls and I hunted this morning, felt fortunate to get these. Not much flying. Seemed cold for 39 Degrees

Okduckdude I hope your dog gets better. I'm just like you, if my dog can't go I'm not going.

I haven’t been posting it but I’ve been having one of the best starts to season I’ve ever had! Limited today with mallards and a wood duck and that made 36 for me personally in 7 hunts this year

Here are some pictures of my pheasant hunting trip. Monday we hunted a big CRP field right next to a corn field. Found most of the birds right next to the corn, or we pushed them there. My older dog Teal found a covey of Gray Partridge first time we have flushed any of them. Thought they were Chukar at first. Neat little bird highlight of the day.

Tuesday was more of the same CRP and cattails. Lots of water in the cattails so we actually found birds on the edges of the cattails.

Wednesday night it snowed not a lot just a couple inches. Had a stiff north northwest wind Thursday morning.
There was a small piece of property we had hunted Monday. It had a little bit of standing corn right next to a shelter belt, had a rooster get away from us there. So Thursday morning I decided to give Trigger another chance at that rooster that got away. We pull up to the piece of property and to my surprise they had cut the corn. I thought to myself this looks good we may get revenge on that rooster. The shelter belt was east to west, with that north northwest wind, perfect. We just started down the southwest side of it, found a hen first and flushed her. That got Trigger fired up off we go after that rooster. We did not go very far and she found a rooster, flushed him I shot him. So we decided to finish out the shelter belt. A few minutes later we had two more roosters and we were done. It was one of those perfect scenarios and she handled it well. I was proud of her.

Forgot to post this one. My little sis shot this stud 6 point last Sunday and we shot 11 ditch chickens near blackwell for opener. Been a while since I've chased em. Makes me yern for another GSP pup to work on since dad's male is 10 (slowing down a bunch) and we lost his 7 y/o female this past spring. Image

Had an interesting hunt. Shot my 5 greenheads and my bud shot two losing one mallard. Franchi 48AL 28 gauge and modified choke with 3/4 oz HW15 #6. Found a road hit deer that was still alive so we put it down and processed it this afternoon.Image

Well let's recap. Hunted a public marsh Saturday that was holding a ton of birds leading up and we took 4 GWT and 2 mallards between 4 of us, saw very few birds in relation to what we'd seen all week. Went out to another marsh this morning and didn't see much. I expected to get a good push of birds the past few days but I have yet to find them.

Scratched a few this morning. New pond, something new to learn. Birds did not want to land anywhere in the neck of the pond, landed in the wide open by the dam. Was able to make a move and kill a few.Image

Christmas Ducks
First time I've been able to hunt this hole this year.
Usually a good producer but they haven't been using it for some reason.
All my hot spots are empty, we need a COLD front!

Yes they are mother and daughter. The daughter is on the right wearing the collar. I raised a litter of puppies,
to give to my hunting buddies. She had ten puppies, more than I had expected. Five of them hunt. Five of them are just family dogs. I planned on getting rid of Trigger (daughter), after training. Initial plans fell through so I just kept her. It has worked out well pheasant hunting. I don't need two dogs in the duck blind, Just don't have the heart to leave one of them home.
They just take turns.
I know my writing skills suck, just try to over look it.

We need a new push of birds in a bad way. Does feel like we've gotten new birds at any point in December. I have hunted a mix of public marsh, private ponds, and the river each time seeing fewer and fewer birds with the ones I have seen being very difficult to even entice to look my way let alone work the decoys.

Anyone else experiencing this? Looking at the extended forecast I am not sure there is much in store to change this either.

It was outstanding for several weeks with last Monday being the end of it. After that and since, very slow. I hope we get some bad weather soon as we do need it.

Was surprised the amount of ducks we saw Saturday in between showers and T storms. Stuck it out through the rain and shot 22 geese and 13 ducks in a wheat field.
