Proposed Season Changes

Postby Yuchi1 » Sat May 02, 2020 11:11 pm

The proposed changes is to delay opener until the second Saturday in November and go back to the 5 day split with closer still as last Sunday in January. Only bag limit change is scaup reduced to 1/day. Zone 1 and zone 2 separate dates would be abolished with both zones having the above framework. Panhandle High Plains Mallard Management Unit would still have it’s own framework.

Eh I’d believe it when I see it. However, I will say the past two years November has been better than late seasons. We had a couple of good early pushes with weather then it turned off.

However, I would like to have the early part of November to chase them white butts.

So what ever happened to the permanent blind drawings being removed on some lakes? They were going to vote, then delayed a year, then going to vote again but never heard what happened. Anyone know?

Here's a link to the February commission meeting where they acted on the permanent duck blind issue.

https://www.wildlifedepartment.com/site ... Agenda.pdf

Scroll down to the actual 800 language. The 800 duck blind regs are listed under:
SUBCHAPTER 5. MIGRATORY BIRD HUNTING SEASON
PART 11. WATERFOWL HUNTING BLINDS
800:25-5-48 thru 51

You will find the strikeout/underline version. Strikeouts are deleted language and underlined language is added language.

Wow, permit holders have until 1/2 hour BEFORE official sunrise or other hunters can hunt them.

The 7:30 rule that was previously there was really stupid.

O I agree whole heartedly; I’m just shocked they changed it.

"Wow, permit holders have until 1/2 hour BEFORE legal shooting time or other hunters can hunt them."

Okduckdude -- I think you mis read the new language. A blind permit holder has priority use on their blind until 1/2 hour before official sunrise (legal shooting time), not 1/2 hour before legal shooting time.

(e) Seasonal blind permit holders will have priority use on said blind each day until 1/2 hour before official sunrise (legal shooting time). Permit holders claiming priority use before this time must be prepared to furnish identification to ensure priority use. After this time, unoccupied blinds will be available to other hunters.

Hope this helps.

You are correct, I should change that to official sunrise. I just mistyped.

Example. If official sunrise is at 7:00am then legal shooting time is at 6:30 am. Under the new rule, a permit holder has until 6:30 am (30 minutes before official sunrise (otherwise known as “shooting time”) to claim priority of the blind by show of permit. After official shooting time, so 6:31 am and beyond, it’s anyone’s game.
