Season is mostly over for us in CenTex (Melvin). Despite limited water and a tank no more than .5 acres, we dropped 134 ducks this season. Top species was gadwall, followed by greenwing teal and ringneck. We DID get redheads, canvasback, pintail, and wigeon on some days too.

Opening weekend - 5 birds sat / 12 sunday (2 hunters)
11/16 - 17 ducks for 3 shooters
11/29 - 18 ducks for 3 shooters (15min limits)
12/7 - 17 ducks for 3 shooters (one nice bull sprig in there)
12/11 - 6 birds (solo hunt, done in 7 minutes)
12/14 - 6 birds (solo hunt, done in 15min)
12/21 - 10 birds for 2 hunters
1/2 - 12 birds for 2 hunters (10min limits)
1/8 - 3 birds (solo hunt, things have slowed down)
1/11-1/12 - 8 birds for 3 hunters over 2 days
1/17-1/18 - 11 birds in 2 days (solo)
1/21-1/22 - 9 birds in 2 days (solo)

Will post some strap photos if anyone is interested.

Those are all good hunts compared to what we are doing here in east texas. I mainly hunt some ranch ponds (.5 acre to 30 acre). Like you mentioned lack of rain has limited our success.

What part of Texas are you in??

I haven’t posted in forever and noticed a change. I just started getting back into hunting over the last couple years so I’ll check here more. Hopefully some of the other longtime members come back. I went for about 4 years where I just didn’t want to get up at 0200 to sit in a marsh.
