Less than a month!

Postby BGipson » Thu Aug 03, 2017 8:40 pm

Until we get to take advantage of the newly doubled early season limit! 4 birds will finally make a substantial pile to be ground up with bacon or made into jerky. Been working on painting and reflocking my decoy heads since they got a little rough last year. New super secret spot should be a barrel burner since geese have never been hunted there! bring on season!

Very nice! I drew an area 1 crane tag now that I look at the results. Guess that'll be in the mail sometime now.

I also drew Area 1.

I went out yesterday and it looks like there are a few to choose from as well as a lot of geese.

It should be a good early season depending on the competition in the area.

Good luck to you guys! Think I'm going to run some Hevi-X tungsten loads for these tough pterodactyls.

Last Year, I got one in area 3 with 3" #2 Winchester Super X.

I do not think that are as hard to bring down as those bullet proof mergansers.

Haha yeah I avoid them buggers like the plague! And goldeneye for that matter.

Getting into a footrace with a crane isn't much fun either though.

That'll work nicely! I've killed 3 with steel and it can be done but I'd rather put em down hard and save myself having to chase them if my hit isn't solid.

Cousin just sent me a pic of his doe antelope for tag #1.

I kind of want to find a way to cook lawn darts and goldeneyes well. They are plentiful at certain times of the year and can be fun to shoot.

I guess the hunting season has begun.

Found a mother lode of geese and have permission. Can't wait to see what early season brings when I finally get to chase them.

How'd it go?

I ended up with a crane and 2 geese during the early season.

The Sage Chicken Season has been tough. Only one to boot. I did get another goose and a few ducks, but the sage chickens have vanished.

Not too badly if I had to say so. Couple flocks came to play each day. Never did get our cranes but it's a free tag, so no big loss.ImageImage
