I could use some help northern indiana

Hello, My friend and I have decided to get into waterfowl hunting this fall. We plan to acquire all necessary equipment throughout the year leading up until season opens. We live in elkhart county and would appreciate any information and or tips you could give us. Things like can you hunt on any lake or river? I've hunted whitetail at tri county and have noticed a lot of waterfowl there. Can you hunt there anytime you want, or is there some kind of drawing or restrictions? If someone would allow us to go along with them on a couple hunts we would be more than happy to pay for any expenses. Every little bit helps thanks guys
