Removing shot from ground waterfowl

Postby sharris » Mon Feb 16, 2015 9:45 am

What do you guys do to remove shot from your ground duck/goose. I ground up 15 lbs of meat this weekend to make sausage and was pretty careful to pick out the pellets when I was cubing the meat. When going through the meat after it was ground I still found a few pellets that I had missed. Does anyone use a magnet over their ground meat and if so what size? The sausage came out good, but I don't want anyone to break a tooth.

I was thinking of this for future batches: http://www.harborfreight.com/30-lb-capa ... 67156.html

My only question would be, if you use Hevi-metal like I do or still have some Tungsten Matrix laying around, would the magnet work on them. Don't seem like a bad idea to try the magnet.

I don't know if a magnet would work on the non-steel shot. I guess it depends on their composition and whether there was some steel mixed in. I did go buy a magnet yesterday and if I get a crack at some snow geese this spring I'll give it a try.

Magnetic stud finder works to locate shot in birds.
