Best Currently Available Full Bodies

Postby tjones6474 » Thu Aug 20, 2020 8:38 pm

I'm not buying a huge volume of decoys, somewhere between 6-12, so I'm not terribly concerned about price...

I'm open to any suggestions, but was considering BigFoot, Dakotas, Avians, and Tanglefree.

Recommendations?

Thanks.

Doubt you can do better than Dave Smith's Decoys.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

At that price, I certainly hope not. How's their durability?

You asked about the "best" and express little concern about price. I can't speak to Avian FBs from experience, but have had Big Foots that were as durable as my DSDs but didn't finish our pressured geese nearly as well. My Dakota FB neither held up or finished birds as well, and my Tanglefree floaters looked better than most such, but eventually started slipping paint like my Dakota FBs did.

(Also have some first generation Deception FBs that I actually like better than my DSDs, but no experience with their newer ones. And they're not cheap, either.)

Anyway, if the customs are too rich for your blood, I'd give the Avians a shot before any of the others you've mentioned.

Can’t speak for the full bodies but I’ve got some avian x goose floaters that look good and have held up well.

Are the Avian AXPs painted heads, or flocked?

Best is somewhat subjective. Often best is what fits a particular need. For example, most of my hunts are in the morning before work. I only have a limited amount of time. I don't have time for the extra care that flocked or fragile decoys would require when I am picking up. I need a durable decoy that I can toss into the trailer and the geese I hunt have little pressure so extreme realism isn't a necessity. I also have a big enough trailer to haul the numbers I feel I need. Bigfoots are the "best" for my needs. Determine your needs before so you can decide what is best (for you).
