Here we go!

Waterfowl season is finally here!!!! Can't wait to get out in the morning with the dog. Work is crazy so I haven't had time to scout.....don't care. Good luck to everyone this season. Post some pics, tell some stories, maybe some of us can get together for some hunts! I've got a bunch of gear and not a lot of time for scouting, so if you come up with a place with some birds, I'll bring the gear and maybe we can get a few.
Hunt safe!

Got my first MT bird this morning! All the spots I scouted were choked with people, finally found some open space and it paid off! Happy to be on the board for the year

I showed up to my field this morning to find someone else setting out his spread. Bummed to say the least! Made the best of it and found a slough with a couple birds in it to help knock off some rust from this summer of too much work and not enough practice. I'll try to get a pick of them on here soon.
Congrats to everyone that got on the board, and to everyone who actually got out!

Ended up with 21 birds opening day off canyon ferry wma, should have had more, set decoys up Friday evening to get there Saturday morning to find a guy next island over 60 yards away :-( who loved shooting our birds we had working us..... public land frustrations to the max, still had a great time with 5 other buddy's, headed back to canyon ferry now to try some walleye fishing for rest of the day, brother went out again this morning with some buddy's and picked up 10 geese and 6 more ducks, good luck to everybody this season and if any body wants to go out fell free to hit me up.

Great job! Good looking dog too. Ya a little etiquette goes a long way. Canyon Ferry is way closer to home, and sounds like there are ducks a plenty to go around. Did you actually use the side by side? Don't see many of those in the field these days.

Yes that's all I hunt ducks with, the 1 less shell makes you choose your shots a bit more but I like the old school classic factor of it, it's one of the newer cz, so it is steel shot approved, shoots 3" and has choke tubes, I love the double triggers and exposed hammers..... just something different

There were plenty of birds in the area but I think a lot of them got a good education and remembered its hunting season again, don't think it will shoot that good till we get some new birds in the area along with some better weather,

Sydwayz04

That CZ hammer gun is fine one and glad to see someone else using one. Like the long barrels especially; find the additional safety somewhat problematic as my other hammer guns don't have one. I use mine on Cape Cod and the Atlantic for eiders and scoters mostly, shooting handloads of ITX and steel depending on the setup. Don't shoot 3 inchers much as 2 1/2 ITX will take decoying sea ducks without a problem, and they do come in close! For upland I also use some hammer guns, an Austrian 24 gauge WW II bring back being a favorite but there are 28, 16 and 12's to use on the land and on the sea too.

Heading to Montana tomorrow for trout, ducks and sharptails. Last year a cold snap and snow gave us amazing puddler gunning and fewer sharptails. This dry year will probably be the reverse, and pheasant season is open too.\

Where are you going to be roundabouts in Montana ?

Yes I love the ol hammer guns, just find it a bit more satisfying with it when you do harvest something

How long are you in Montana for ?

Only in Montana for a few days. Hit a great BWO hatch on the lower Madison yesterday; in Chinook this weekend, then back in Bozeman Monday probably to fish the Madison again and back to NJ on Tuesday. Short but happy trip!

Just relocated to Helena from Central Florida. Went on my 1st hunt here the other day in Townsend... It sure was different looking at mountains instead of a swamp. Still trying to figure out the area. Have about 3 dozen decoys and would love to meet up for a hunt with someone anywhere in the general area don't mind driving a couple hours. Thanks and good luck to everyone this season.
