I've heard from people that take the train there that service is terribly inconsistent and the ride time can have huge variations depending on traffic

Tell me about it. The train ahead of me spent 13 hours stuck in a snow bank near Rugby. I am currently 7 plus hours behind schedule into Fargo. Going out, I arrived in Whitefish 20 minutes ahead of schedule.

Yeah I rode from eastern MT/Western NoDak and left in the evening going to Winona. Somehow we got 2 or 3 hours behind traveling across freaking NoDak in the middle of the night.

There's an old rule on the books that oil cars take or can take priority over other cars on the track, including passenger trains. My guess would be delays because of this. Even cars with crops had major delays during the oil boom.

Yes. Generally Amtrak trains have priority but hot shot z trains force Amtrak to the side. They are usually time sensitive or high priority freight like UPS, FEDEX, etc. we pulled over a few times to let freight trains full of semi trailers and stacked boxes through.

Woody work today. Or Goldeneye






This was the house by my house that I see goldeneyes using. Had 3 while eggs and a couple broken that appeared to have chicks in them. Didn't dig to see how many broken up hatched shells there were. Hopefully she laid a clutch closer to 10 or it was a bad nest. Last years clean out and the spotting of chicks was much better.

Got to get my waterfowl fix in over the last few weeks with a couple trips to SD for snows. We managed to find a good juve feed Friday and Saturday! Now the big wait is really on..
