Almost done with my red card certification, passed the pack test with flying colors today. Two more tests and it's back to the ducks for a couple days before class starts up. Anywho, I talked to the instructors and they said it wasn't to hard to get in the US Forest Service as an AD (Administratively Determined). Anybody on here ever done any of that or fight wildfires with them? I'm definitely looking into it for this summer and maybe getting on a fire or two out west. What all do I need to do to get the wheels moving with that? I'll probably talk to them tomorrow since nearly all the instructors started out doing AD, but figured I could get some input on here too.

I'll assume jrockncash got ya set up with the pm. Not too difficult to get a job on a wildfire crew. One word of advice...if you're going to fight wildfire out west, make sure you could do two pack tests in a row without getting wore down. Taking a pack test on low-land conditions doesn't simulate fighting fire out West very well.

In my experience once you get a job, and get out to the barracks they'll make sure to run you through a proper mountain pack test.
