Almost turkey time.

Just over a month and it’s time for gobbler’s. I know Leakey and AA are in. Anyone else going after a nice Tom? I’ve had many visits recently including a flock of nine Tom’s. All eating my winter rye in my raised garden beds. They did a number on it. The last few days a single Tom has paid a visit. Think I’ve got my name on this one. Can’t wait for it.

I was just texting another buddy about this . Can’t wait! The sound of a gobble close by in the woods is something that can’t be explained but needs to be experienced!

I will be heading to the woods for spring turkey for the first time in my hunting career. Have zero clue about anything turkey related, but I am excited to learn on the fly and be back outdoors as the sun comes up!
Good luck if you’re headed out Monday for a gobbler gentlemen. I’ve had lots of Tom’s sounding off in the mornings as of late. Haven’t seen a lot in the local fields lately but that my bode well for me where I hunt mostly wooded areas. Can’t wait to be in the woods with shotgun in hand.

Good luck Baymen - make sure you clean and lube the hinges on your O/U.
What’s funny HNTFSH is I use an H&R single shot for turkey. I call it my stovepipe. Totally un turkey like. 12ga. 32 inch barrel. I have it wrapped in camo tape. It’s one of my first guns. I love it.

I doubt I'll get out on Monday, on standby to leave on the boat & probably get the call to leave on Monday.
I wish I could cause I have this Tom that loves to gobble right outside my bedroom window every morning around 530 & beat the hell out of plastic guard for the basement window.
This guy has a death wish.

Good luck to everyone and be safe! Haven’t had the chance to scout at all so I’ll be winging it at one of my more productive spots over the years. It’s a good opening day spot as it’s pretty tucked away.

On another note, I ordered a Flextone thunder Jake that surprisingly showed up today. Nice looking decoy that has the stake attached on by a small bungee so no more lost stakes

I have the same decoy and the hen going on three seasons and they are great for the money.

Uneventful opener for me. Had some gobbling on roost but went silent after fly down. That particular roost is on property I don’t have access to. I have pulled one from there to me before but not today. Back at it Saturday.
I also had a slow opener. Had a hen and Tom behind me for about 30 minutes and then walked off. I sat until 11:00 without another gobble. On the plus side I got to watch a couple owls for awhile.

Another unproductive day in the woods. Never heard a turkey gobble on the roost or all morning. Had to pack it up at 10:30 to get my son to soccer. Of course as we’re walking out of the woods one gobbles. Probably can’t get out this week but will try again on Saturday.

The same roost produced plenty of gobbling this morning. After fly down they continued. At one point I thought I had one interested but again the field they favor worked against me. The field I don’t have access to. Got permission to hunt some adjacent ground but nothing doing there. These birds are staying in the safe zone.
Well, the gobblers won this season 5-0. Plenty of Toms around but couldn’t coax them away from their comfort zone. Can’t hunt the closer next week, season done. Countdown to ducks and deer.
I got the lucky last week, it was tough hunting with that wind. Unless the birds were downwind of you calling was useless.
I was moving from spot #2 to 3 when I spotted this guy strutting on a powerline right before the piece I was going into.

Congratulations. Nice bird and pic.
Nice bird man! This season has been weird for me. I’ve only been out twice and haven’t heard much. Between the puppy, my sons sports, work and sickness it’s been tough.

Thanks guys.
I only got out a few times this season due to the fishing trips being so often cause our fishing year starts on April 1st. When I get home from a week to 2 week trip Im just burnt out for a few days, the last thing I want to do is get up crazy early.
I just realized the season ends on Saturday, I just figured it was over like it usually is on the Saturday of Memorial day weekend. So Im done since I'm heading back out tomorrow
Good luck the last few days of the season to everyone chasing birds
