im trying to find out more about it to where i can, i have a pond that is slowly turning into a slough from the beavers, its amazing watching what mother nature can do, but im trying to figure out what to do, im wanting to put in duck houses
Try the MN Waterfowl Assn site as they have plans for both wood duck and Mallrd hen nests.
It is too late for this season--but contact me this winter and I'd be glad to give you a few tips from my experince of installing and maintaining the 40+ I have up.
You may still want to plant good food in the water if there is not the right kind in your pond already. Try Wildlife Nurseries. You can always call them and they can recomend what would be best for your local area.
You will also have to check with the local laws. I tried to help out in a small area and when I went to check on them the DNR took them down and and posted a nasty letter to me. Just wanted to help!?! If you OWN the pond Im sure its different but if you dont, The plans for the nesting box/pod must be approved by the fish and game. Your best bet is to get with your local fowl supporters and get the preapproved plan for the houses..... or they may give you some, and tell you how high they need to be and the best placement.
