I agree with MM. It really does depend on the birds. I have decoyed snows in the spring using nothing more than white Hi-lex jugs with black wing tips spray painted on. But, I was on the "X". If you are in a field that they want to be in than you should be o.k.

Depending on where you hunt and the qty of geese, you absolutely do not need a large spread. In fact, when the birds get shy we tend to put out smaller feeding grounds in bunches around our pits in dry fields, in groups of 25 - 30 rags or full bodies, up to no more than 200 decoys. this has proven to be more successful than very large spreads. This tends to work best when there has been a lot of hunter pressure on snows and they have been feeding in the area you are hunting.

I dont know if this will help, but after 15 years of use, I can definately say that for the $$ they are a great investment. Our biggest problem is lack of wind at times and of course rain. With no wind or during rain, what you have is a great big flock of nothing. We have used from as little as 2 dozen to as many as 1500. We have set out pods as far as 250 yards from main bunch to mimic what we see. We also not only tie, staple or tape the top ,we will also staple the underbelly several times to provide more shape.
