The following mind-boggling attempt at a crime spree in Washington USA
appeared to be the robber's first (and last), due to his lack of a previous
record of violence, and his terminally stupid choices:
1. His target was H&J Leather & Firearms, A gun shop specializing in
handguns.
2. The shop was full of customers - firearms customers.
3. To enter the shop, the robber had to step around a marked police patrol
car parked at the front door.
4. A uniformed officer was standing at the counter, having coffee before
work. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up, and fired a few wild shots from a .22 target pistol. The officer and a clerk
promptly returned fire, the police officer with a 9mm Glock 17, the clerk
with a .50 cal Desert Eagle, assisted by several customers who also drew
their guns, several of whom also fired, The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop.
The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds.
Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt
in the exchange of fire.
Here we are at the beginning of March and we already may have the 2005
winner of the Darwin Award.

My dad's friend owns a gun shop and had someone try to rob it. The guy walked in held a gun up (sideways you know like you see on TV) to the my dad's friend. Immediately my dad's friend knew that he had no idea what he was doing so he reached down like he was gabbing money and grabbed a gun instead and shot the idiot.
Some people are just plain stupid.
H2o do you know if any of the people who returned fire are going to be prosecuted. I'm all for them killing the guy, but I know self defense has to be within reasonable measure. For seven guys to fire 47 shots is about six shots per person. I've got a feeling people are going to be all over this one.

OUCH! i think you're right h2o, it sounds like we already have a winner! it'll be pretty tough to beat that one.

Only one thing I find odd. Even if the guy is a complete idiot, he may have actually got what he really intended, and that was suicide by another persons' gun. SCoutdoorsman knows what I'm talking about. People will actually act as if they're going to commit a crime worthy of return fire either by the law or the victim, even though they had no intentions what so ever of hurting anyone but themselves. Wouldn't be surprised there was a suicide note out there somewhere.
The story is blown up a lot more than it really did happen. Being from Washington I know it didn't quite happen like that. You can look it up on snopes, it has been floating around for quite sometime.

There are people THAT stupid. I've seen a video of a UNIFORMED armed officer standing in a convenience store sipping coffee and waiting in line to pay when a armed would be smart guy walks in. He actually stands in line, looks at the officer and steps up to the counter. He then pulls his weapon and demands cash. The officer looks around, like is this for real? He sits the coffee down, draws his gun and puts it to the guys head and tells him if he moves he WILL kill him! The man lays his weapon down, and goes face first to the floor. He getes cuffed and the officer calls for pickup.
