I'm planning on getting a used ATV for the upcoming season. I def. want a 4x4 but i don't know what size would be sufficient for me. I want one that will carry two adults and decoys, and guns and be able to get me through the mud without hesitation. I am a college student so I'm still on a budget. What would you all recommend?

All help/advice is appreciated!

There are sooooo many quads out there to look at.. and what price range...
A good size to carry all that... at least a 400... my dad has a 2001 suzuki king quad, I beleive it's a 350 and it carries him, and me and our ice fishing gear, AND pulls a hut like there was nothing on it at all... and I've had it up to the bars in some sticky mud and made it out (but dont' let him know that!)
those Polaris 700's are some really nice quads... I had a Polaris sled, never any major problems with it and I rode that sucker hard.
Honda is known for their reliability... haven't killed one yet (except for my CR) and we've had alot of toys... but suzuki has really been good for us too...
Being younger tho, I would look at a yamaha wolverine, it's what I would personally get, 4x4, in a 350, but it is still a very sporty quad, you can still get some good speed and jumps out of it, but it has the 4x4 wich is nice... just go out and look around and research before you buy.

I agree 400cc or bigger i had a kodiak 450 to plow snow and it never got stuck..

yeah, the koidak is a good machine, my step-grandad has one, it sure aint a bad machine!

Stick w/ a 400-500cc ballpark.

Any of the brands are fine--just preference.

I have only driven the Auto trannys, but I think the manuals could be a plus in mud, water, ice, etc...

I've got a 95 Polaris 425. It's a good machine. Me and my dad have had a big buck on it that probably weighed in at 190lbs field dressed and both of us on it. It was squattin like crazy, but it still had plenty of power.

A friend of ours has the Sportsmen 500. Another great bike and even more power. I like that his is shaft driven too.

The only beef I have with the Polaris bikes are how beefy they are. They are definitely a work bike and it takes both arms to turn those handlebars at a stand still. I can't really compare them to anything though because I haven't ridden anything else.

Another plus, they are made right here in the USA. :thumbsup:

Kawasaki Brute Force 750 has RAW POWER. It will pull anything you need with no matter what load on it. Only problem is price. anything other id look at Honda. The Foreman or Rubicons are great.

The brute force has a different diff locking switch that most atvs which when you flip it, it will takes at least one and a half revolution of the front tires for it to kick in so if you happen to get stuck and you flip the switch well you get the picture, still spinnin, but the polaris is an on demand switch which mean you flip it its on. If you want a pretty bike then get a king quad, they have a real cute yellow one. I wish i had some pics of me and my bud mudin in west vergina, my buddy had a king and he got stuck and was trying to get out and i got tired of waitin so i flew by'm and covered him in mud, you had to be there, oh i ride a POLARIS 800 EFI sportsman camo.

Basicly it personal pref, just like trucks but do your reserce and ride some because there are some sh#$y bike outs there. I did read the the new bambarader however you spell it is susposed to be bullet prof but let me tell you this listen now, i have rolled over four time down a hill before it hit a small tree and dumped it out the back of my truck which is higher than most trucks and the only scratch i have is on the back tie down bars and one of my snaps came out of my fareing.....thats it so i say WHHHOOOORAAAA POLARIS

i have a honda 350 rancher, and you can do ABSOLUTLY ANYTHING with it, they are awsome. A bit pricey but a good used one is not to bad, got mine for 3,500 less than a year old.Very rugged, Very powerful, Very reliable, and i pull out my friends 500's all the time.

i have to second the honda atv's. i bought a rubicon 500 last october and i have already put that thing through hell. it hasn't missed a beat. i have a buddy that has a foreman 400 that is about 5 years old and his is running like a top still. imo, for reliability, honda is second to none.

btw, it's made in the USA too. about 20 miles from my house.... :salude:

i had a 1983 honda 250 2wd , went trough anything with the big mudbuggers, it was a heck of a 4 wheeler, got $200 for it last year.
